THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT

History

The school was built in 1911 and new additions and alterations have been made over the years. The school benefits from a beautiful grounds providing excellent outdoor spaces including a large field and playground with numerous and varied pieces of  play equipment installed to enhance our children's exploration. A secure entrance gate requires announcement on arrival. 

The school has one classroom per year group, boasts a well resourced library, discrete learning rooms and the 'Lodge' which provides extra space for many groups and activities. 

Library

The school’s purpose-built library houses a wide choice of classic and modern fiction, poetry, non-fiction and reference books. The school’s reading scheme books are also shelved here so that children are used to going in to the library on a daily basis.

The children can sit and carry out research for work in curriculum areas, as well as having comfortable space to peruse books for pleasure.

Reading for pleasure is actively encouraged and greatly valued in the school.

Car Parking

The road outside school becomes very congested at the beginning and end of the day, so please consider our neighbours and the public bus service when parking.  Avoid parking in front of or immediately opposite the school gates and, if you see others parking in these places, please explain to them that it places children in danger when crossing the road.

Bicycles

Governors are prepared to allow children to cycle to school if the following conditions are met:

  1. We have provision for bicycles and scooters in the school grounds, in the form of racks. Please use these carefully and respectfully.
  2. Children cycling to and from school must be accompanied by an adult.
  3. The school will take no responsibility for bicycles left at school.
  4. Strictly no cycling on school grounds.  Cyclists must dismount at the school gates.  There is an obvious danger to small children running to and from their parents across the playground.  This also applies to pre-school children - please do not allow them to cycle in the playground at any time.
  5. Bicycles should be walked down the playing field side of the school and left carefully placed in the racks outside the library.
  6. The governors recommend that safety helmets are worn.  Parents should take helmets home as space is limited in school.
