Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is a Government initiative that started in April 2011 and it targets support for pupils who are at risk of becoming disadvantaged as learners due to deprivation. Disadvantaged learners are children who have limited opportunity to access the same learning, social, physical and emotional experiences as their peers without additional support being in place. The premium is provided in order to support these pupils in reaching their full potential.

The Government has used pupils entitlement to ‘Free School Meals’ (FSM) and service children (HM/Forces) as an indicator for the Pupil Premium Grant. They have deployed a fixed amount of money to schools per pupil, based upon the number of pupils registered for free school meals (or have been registered for free school meals for the last six years- known as ‘Ever 6’)

How to apply for Pupil Premium

Schools, Headteachers and Teachers will decide how to use the Pupil Premium allocation, as they are best placed to access what additional provision should be made for individual pupils.

It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per free school meal pupil is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.
