Parents in School
Parents are given the opportunity to participate in school life in a wide variety of ways.
We greatly value the help given by parents, both on a regular basis and for special events. For the benefit of new parents, here are some of the ways in which you can help:-
- Reading support
- Group sewing
- General classroom help
- Accompanying visits
- Helping with fun events
- Fundraising
- Refreshments for special events
- Tidying the library
. . . . . in fact, almost anything!
We request parent helpers to sign in at the office and to collect an identity badge, so that we have a record for safety reasons of who is on the premises.
All volunteers are subject to DBS clearance.
Meet the Teacher
During the first few weeks of the new school year, after the children have had time to settle each Teacher will hold this event in order for you to understand the opportunities available in the current year and our expectations of you and your child.
Celebration of Learning
This is an opportunity for you and your child to share their learning, other opportunities are when you can ask further questions of the staff.
Parents Evening
This is a formal event for you to discuss your child's learning with their Class Teacher. We have three of these per year
General contact
The Staff greet the children each morning at the class room doors, this is an opportunity to give messages or have a brief chat if matters arise. This is mirrored at the end of the day. If you require a more detailed conversation please book an appointment to allow more time to discuss the matter.
Staff are always happy to talk over the phone and will return calls at their earliest convenience.
School Society
Sturminster Marshall School Society is the Parent/Teacher Association, with the aim of raising funds to provide extra facilities and learning materials that cannot be afforded from the school budget. All parents of children attending the school are automatically members of School Society and from this a Committee is elected each year. We all want the best for our children and School Society is one way of contributing to our children’s experiences in their early years at school, and having some fun at the same time.
In the past we have raised funds for computer and technology equipment, books, musical instruments, playground toys and donations towards the upkeep of the swimming pool. The latter is a great asset for the school – it means that during the summer term the children are able to have swimming lessons as part of the timetable. Fundraisers during the year include Maypole Dancing, Summer and Christmas Fair, and various sponsored events. Fresh ideas are always welcome and it’s a great way to meet other parents.
School Society is not just about raising money; we also aim to provide experiences for the children other than academic ones. Near Christmas we organise a cake bake as well as a christmas party lunch and entertainment, both of which the children really enjoy. They also have great fun learning the Maypole dances and spending their hard-earned pocket money at the School Fair.
