Friday 22 November 2024 A snowy day! It's not very often we have snow in Dorset so we had very excitable children yesterday, who enjoyed going outside and exploring in the snow! Sadly, today it is just a playground full of ice!

Friday 8 November 2024 First Week Back! Every week seems to be busy and this week is no exception! Maths has been the biggest challenge this week with column addition (over 10) and in English the children have explored commands using 'bossy verbs' and used question marks.

Friday 25 October 2024 End of half term We finished the term with a lovely harvest festival this morning and the opportunity to make a corn dolly with our W.I visitors. This was enjoyed by all the children.

Monday 7 October 2024 Woodpeckers visit from the Dog's Trust On Monday 7th October the school had a visit from Vicky at the Dog's Trust. She gave a talk to the children about how to stay safe around dogs.

Friday 13 September 2024 First Week Back! This week has been the first full week back and I am really proud of all the children. They have settled in well and are learning new routines and what is expected of them in Year 2.

Friday 12 July 2024 Brilliant Bridges! This week we started a new book called Rosie Revere, Engineer. The children were very motivated and excited to build a strong bridge. In maths we finished our work on capacity and measurements and started shape and position.

Friday 21 June 2024 Fabulous Food! The highlight this week was definitely preparing and eating food! In D.T the children learnt to use different equipment, e.g scissors, grater and a table knife to prepare different foods (spring onion, hummus, vegetables, fruit, cheese).

Friday 14 June 2024 Friday again! The days and weeks seem to fly by so quickly! This week the children have learnt about suffixes ( adding er and est ) on to the end of root words. One more week on the Great Fire of London and then they will start a new text.

Friday 7 June 2024 Colour magic! Although it has only been 4 days at school this week for the children they still seem to have completed a lot of work.

Friday 24 May 2024 Happy Holiday! This week has been busy finishing off all our topics; clay sculptures in art, The Great Fire of London in history, algorithms in ICT and relationships in PSHE.

Friday 17 May 2024 Water everywhere! Wessex Water came to visit this week and challenged the children to save water in every day life; have a shower instead of a bath, use rain water to water the plants instead of the hose etc!

Friday 10 May 2024 Fire, fire! The week started with the lovely maypole dancing on bank holiday which was enjoyed by all. Tuesday the children went to Poole fire station; they enjoyed spraying the hose, jumping in the fire engine and learning more about The Great Fire of London. This resulted in writing a recount about their trip and creating fire posters.

Friday 3 May 2024 Hot chocolate treat! This week we achieved 30 marbles in our class jar; we always have a marble in the jar when the class work together well or all work quietly and productively individually aswell. The children voted and as a treat they had hot chocolate, marshmallows and cream! Yum!

Friday 26 April 2024 Marvellous Maypole! The children have been learning their maypole dance and are very excited about sharing this with you on Bank Holiday Monday!

Friday 15 March 2024 Science Day Woodpeckers had a great science day on Friday 15th March. They followed an online link to the Natural History Museum in London and learnt about climate change and the impact that it can have. They then learnt about modern day dinosaurs (birds) and we were surprised at how many birds they knew! During the day they took part in many quizzes and could see what other school children had said. They then made different birds using Lego and as you can see, they are amazing! As well as this they had an investigation looking at a range of feathers, initially observing them and then investigating what happens when they have oil spilt on them, which was led by our parent governor and the School Society Members.

Friday 9 February 2024 Mud, Glorious Mud! Although very wet and muddy in forest school yesterday the children never complained at all! They just loved being children!

Friday 2 February 2024 Superheroes! I have been impressed with your children's knowledge of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole; the topic is coming to a close and they now know so many facts about these influential people.

Friday 26 January 2024 Super Scientists! We finished our story 'The Journey Home' this week and produced some super letters to the council, fisherman and people of the world to ask them to help the endangered animals! They are displayed in the frames outside the classroom. The children really loved celebrating their work. We have finished our work on money in maths. I will set up a 'real life' shop next week for the children to buy some items just to consolidate what they have learnt. We do start times tables next week aswell.

Friday 12 January 2024 Love of Learning! The children decided that the title today would be 'Love of learning' as they are so excited in all our lessons.

Friday 15 December 2023 Christmas Crafts The last two weeks have consisted of finishing off our Geography, D.T and Science projects. The children have worked hard and should be able to tell you many facts they have learnt.

Friday 1 December 2023 The Magic of Christmas! This week we have still had plenty of work to do but in between that we have managed to squeeze in a few Christmas crafts, with more planned for next week.

Friday 24 November 2023 Super Stories and a Happy Baby Bear! This week the children have continued writing their story based on the story of 'Goldilocks and Just the One Bear.' They are really great stories! I look forward to you reading them at the next book look.

Friday 3 November 2023 First Week Back The first week back was full of excitement with Halloween, Bonfire Night and The predicted Storm!

Friday 20 October 2023 Last week of term! It may be the last week of term but it has still been a very busy one!

Friday 13 October 2023 Wet and windy! We have some budding actors/actresses here in Woodpeckers. The children loved acting out the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They used adjectives to describe Goldilocks and the word 'because' to give reasons for their ideas.

Friday 6 October 2023 All about Wonderful Woodpeckers As we have been learning about headings and subheadings in English the children decided that 'All about Wonderful Woodpeckers' would be a good heading! Our new story next week is 'Goldilocks and The Three Bears, three different versions.'

Friday 29 September 2023 Forest school fun! In maths this week we have been working on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s both forwards and backwards and recognising the patterns within these. in science we have been investigating what animals need to survive. English has been the continuation of our non-chronological report about Wolves. In forest school the children did some wonderful leaf printing and enjoyed the mud!
